Plumbing Tips for Blocked Drains

It can be quite a nuisance and frustrating if blocked drains happen at your home. Even if you do not experience any blockage at the moment, but you know that even with diligence, sooner or later you will be calling the services of emergency plumber for your blocked drainage system. Maintenance is the key to prevent blocked drains but even your emergency plumber will tell you that sewerage tanks reach its full capacity, some materials that cannot be avoided to throw down the drain like toilet papers and all these contribute to the blockage of drainage. Listed below are some friendly tips from your emergency plumber:

1) Before washing the dishes, wipe off excess grease from the plates, pots, and other kitchen utensils. The excess grease is a big contributory factor to blocked drains. Also, make it a habit to clean the drains at least every other day. You can pour a vinegar, then baking soda, then pour some hot water onto the drain. This process will liquefy the hardened grease and prevent any grease build-up.

2) Constantly check the bath tub stoppers and remove all excess hairs and biofilm build-up. A biofilm is the combination of bacteria, pieces of tiny soaps, among others that will cause blockd drains. You can also fill up the bathtub to three-fourths full of water without taking off the stopper and then remove the stopper once it reaches its three-fourths capacity. The volume and the pressure of the water can clean the pipes and prevent blocked drains.

3) Undergo a regular maintenance. He can check if there is a need to change pipes to avoid leaks and blocked drains. Also, the plumber can monitor if the water level of the septic tank is nearing its full capacity. Flooding can be prevented if the septic tanks are not allowed to spill water which can pose a health hazard to the inhabitants.

4) Do not throw away coffee grinds, tea bags, vegetable peels, and other food particles on the drain to avoid blockage. Have a rubbish can in the kitchen where you can throw all these particles that lead to blocked drainage.

5) Use a natural cleaner that is enzyme and bacteria based. Once this goes down the drain, the bacteria produces more good bacteria to fight off the bad bacteria that causes blocked drains. The chemical based cleaners leave some soap residues which is also a factor for blocked drainage.
